Needle Exchange Programs
Needle exchange programs are listed below by county. Many needle exchange programs are operated "underground" because of legal considerations, and are therefore reluctant to be listed in our public Referral Database.
These are the programs that are willing to be listed publicly. Others throughout the state cannot risk being listed. Information about those programs is strictly by word-of-mouth. You may be in a better position to find out about them from friends who also inject drugs, or by contacting one of these programs and being referred to the ones that must remain completely "underground."
We occasionally get calls from people who want to donate unused syringes to exchange programs. The San Francisco AIDS Foundation’s needle exchange program does not accept donated syringes, but other programs might; interested people can call other sites directly.
